Old Question. New Answer.
So there I was at the Hairdresser's. Reclining at the shampoo tub getting lathered up by a perky 18 year old. One of the best parts of a haircut is the WASH! Small talk ensued. Rinsing, scalp massaging...and then came "The Question".
You know the one that every seasoned IF'er has deflected a million times:
"So, do you have Kids ?"
How many times have I answered that painful query? As many as you, I'm sure.
Sometimes I'd answer with a firm "No".
Other times with a sad "Not Yet... or perhaps with a hopeful "Maybe one day"
I felt lucky to be asked that question as I sat with my eyes closed at the shampoo tub, water splashing on my face disguising tears as I calmly answered Miss Perky.
"Actually.." I spoke "I am expecting my 1st child now. I am 2 months pregnant"
"Oh!" squeaked Miss Perky. "Have you picked any names yet?
"Not yet" I said.
Even though I knew this baby had several names....Miracle. Salvation. Joy.
And with staggering normalcy our polite conversation veered off to a new topic.
It was so incredible to speak such words. Words that I'd dreamed of a zillion times.
Peace lingered in my heart way after the diffuser was switched off.
Pregnant.
Me.
Every waking moment is consumed by relief and happiness.
And my new haircut isn't bad either.

Only someone who has walked a mile in an Ivfer's shoes would understand how truly special that moment must have been!
You are pregnant! Yea!
Oh yeah, glad the haircut is nice, too!
Stacie
It's always nice when a new haircut makes you feel good. Glad this one was extra special!
Can you find a way to post your ultrasound photo? I'd love to see just how identical our babies look! ;)
Ooo! I want to see the new haircut! I'm jonesin' for one myself.
And it is wonderful to say those words. Early in my pregnancy I wanted to tell people who hadn't even asked:
"Okay, ma'am; paper or plastic?"
"Plastic. And by the way, I'm pregnant!"
-D.
Oh Mony! I hear you girlfriend... the first person I told was the blood collection nurse... It felt like such an amazing thing...
Oh what a lovely post. May the beautiful news be spread far and wide ... the mailman, bank teller, cashier, dry cleaning lady, dogwasher, electrician ... take a full page ad out in the paper. Sing it from the rafters. You GO!!!
xoxo
Hi Mony,
Thanks for dropping by.........
So happy too to read that you are embracing your pregnancy with all your heart.
I loved this post! It is so true that having a different answer affects you far more than anyone else. The conversation shifted quickly, but your memory of it will last a long time. By the way, doesn't it amaze you that her next question was "have you picked out names" at 2 months!
That must have been such a great moment for you. I am so happy to see that you are so happy! xx
i get the excited giggles everytime i read your posts. this is so cool isn't it. :)
I think all of us IFers have dreamed of the moment we can FINALLLY answer all of these "routine" questions with a different answer.
CONGRATS!!!
I was very happy when I could stop my dentist from making an X-ray today, because of my pregnancy. :-)
Especially since she looked like she was PG with her second - since we started trying of course.
CONGRATS!

I'm so glad you have such great news to share, what a joy!
finally, the right (in so far as justice in the universe) answer!
Please post a photo of the new haircut.
I remember wanting to scream it from rooftops. Say it as much as you like.
You just reminded me that I need to get something done with this head of mine! Yikes!
I'm so happy for you.
I've tagged you. Come over and have a look.
I remember going to the hairdresser 11wks pg and my hairdresser + one other customer were pg. Inside of sitting there trying not to cry, I got to share in the pg talk and it felt so good that I'll never forget it.
That orange belt looks so good on you!
What a nice experience to have. I know you will cherish each one because the journey has been more so than any other. I wish you the best!
