Give me a BREAK!

For fucks sake!
I failed our Gestational Diabetes test. Of Course! Why wouldn't I? I seem to suck at everything!
Now I have to do the 2 hour tolerance test.....all these tests. I seriously feel like we are paying the wages at "Acme Pathology".

Is it the era of "Too Many Tests"???? Of course I want what is best for Hef....but I wish that didn't involve an open chequebook and a serious pounding on Mummy's coping skills.

I'm so sorry... I sucked at that test too and ended up on insulin for a few weeks.

The only thing that made me feel better was that at least they caught it...

Two hours?! My god, if you fail here in the states you have to do a "three hour" test, which is to say, it's really four hours.

Just don't eat anything super sweet and sugary...and well, you have to fast 12 hours before it anyway. I bet you'll pass. It's just another blip on the road.

I've actually never known anyone who failed, but from what I've heard it's not too uncommon to fail the first one but pass the second. So hang in there and we'll all be hoping you pass! And if not, take comfort in that Hef will be just fine because you will get the meds you need to keep you both healthy!

I hope that you pass the second test with flying colours.

Even if you don't, the fact that the GDM is recognised and managed is the main thing.

Blogger Heather said...

So sorry you didn't pass. Hope you pass the next one!

Oh for fucks sake indeed. Fuck. I hope the pricks at Acme Pathology are wrong, I really do.

Is there a test to know when you've had enough tests?

Mony- take it with a grain of salt. You've been throught these scares before only to find out everything was ok. Dont stress until they tell you to stress. Sorry about you having to shell out so much money! Hope hef is ok- she's strong like her mommy (still pretty sure she's a girl).

Hey I failed the first one during my first pregnancy and passed the second. With my second pregnancy I passed the first test. Do not stress, do not eat any carbs or sugary things the day before the test. Just eat protein!

Ugh I am so sorry Mony. Thinking of you honey.

Well, at least you have gotten good at all kinds of tests and stuff. You will get to keep your pants on for this, so it will be a piece of cake. If it comes back that you have gestational diabetes, I guess there will be no more cake in your diet, so maybe I could have used a better word choice.

Don't worry -- you're not obese. You don't have PCOS. You are not ethnically pre-disposed to diabetes. I am all those things, and I passed the three hour GD test after having failed the first test.

When you go back for your test -- after drinking the sugar concotion do some exercise. I took a 20 minute stroll around the building, and then walked around a shop for 15 minutes before my one hour blood draw. Before my two hour blood draw I did stretches for 10 minutes, and then walked around another store for 15 minutes. The exercise, even though moderate, helps the body process all that sugar.

If you've truly developed gestational diabetes the exercise is not going to screw up the results.

And if you DO have gestational diabetes -- it can be treated. You've suffered the worst of it. You can handle this, too.

hope you pass the retest and can file this episode under "stories to tell my teenage kids when i desperately need to induce guilt or gratitude" :)

Ha!!! Luv your comment TopCat...

I know it's not a laughing matter - but seriously luv - did u ever think for even ONE second that you could possibly pass this test??? That in itself is hysterical!!!

I say take the same approach as our beloved Reggie did after his quadruple bypass when he ducked into KFC for a 2-Piece Feed on his way home from hospital!!! Ha!!! God Bless Him!!!

Suck on a sugar cube & tell those fuckers at Acme to stick their stoopid test up their arse!!!

You'll be sweet my darling - as always...(a-hem..pardon the pun)!!!

It seems so random who passes the tests and who doesn't. I have PCO and drank about a litre of soft drink the day before mine and unbelievably I passed. It is such a drag doing the tests. Here's hoping for a good result on the next.

Oh Crap...just what you need...

I hear you on the expensense, we often joke that Ty is the $5000 plus baby miracle......oh and that was before he was born...5 days after he was totalling a grand final of $28,000. Oh yes....Thank you god for PRIVATE health insurance !!!

Maybe you'll pass the 2 hour test. Too bad you have to do it at all.

Blogger Cibele said...

wishing that you "pass" the second test!!! good luck

The fun just doesn't seem to end, does it? I am sorry for this...I hope that the second test goes better. But, even if it doesn't hopefully altering your diet will do the trick.

Mony: Oh, dear Mony, I saw women chugging that nasty sugary elixir the morning I had my beta back in July. I felt so badly for them...I was gagging just watching them unscrew the cap! I do hope the 2 hour test is tolerable. YOu have come this far...hang in there! I am so sorry you have to endure yet another test.
