Sleep, not.

Oh, Cooper, Cooper, Cooper.

Shall we come clean and tell the internets that although you are indeed, beautiful...you are a turd when it comes to sleeping?
Will you not nap for an hour?
There's a good boy.
How about 35 minutes? No? Won't you even consider it? No? Absolutely not. If daytime sleeping is not your thing then will you not revel in the delicious-ness of a full night's sleep?
Would you let me tell you again how grand it would be for us both if you ditched the 3 hourly wail/feed-a-thon?
Shall I remind you that there's nothing to see at 3.00am except a shift worker returning home or bad info-mercials?
Why must you insist on exploring 3.00am?
Ditto 4.15am.
5.00am is no more exciting.
Believe me, I've been there plenty & it's a cold, desperate place.
Even with a hotdog.
Why do you wake? Is the soft glow of your night light too infuriating? Is your snuggle bed too cosy? Are your crisp sheets too comfortable? Is the lull of your music box too much to bear?
Come now child. You are 5 months old now. Surely big enough to shut-eye a full 10 hours?

Sigh. I'm not perfect, he's not perfect either (damn close) I am reading a self help book about crying/sleeping etc. We are both learning lots. Mostly techniques that bring us both to tears. There is still a long way to go. I know we can conquer this Cooper! Now stop roaring. Mummy's reading Chapter's 7 & 8...again. This time with her gritty eyes propped open with matchsticks.

I was you a year ago. He'd only nap in the swing, and was quickly outgrowing it by 5 months. Nighttime was a disaster, to the point where I dreaded it. Up every three hours, like clockwork, and on the rare occasion he'd sleep 4-5 hours, he'd be up for the day at 4:45 AM.

I wish I had a solution for you. I read every book there is. We did CIO at about 10 months and it got a little better, and somehow, he learned to sleep through at about a year - 13 months-ish.

Good luck, and know two things: it's not your fault and it will get better.

I'm with you. It's hard, isn't it? They'll outgrow it someday, they tell me. In the mean time, I'll wave in your direction at 5 am.

Good to know I'm not the only one!!
My little guy still wakes every 2-3 hours at night too.... and generally naps during the day either in his swing or in my arms.
My daughter was the same way until around 8 months, then she started sleeping better. Before long she was going 12 hours a night straight. She still goes around 10 hours and she is 3 1/2. We never could stomach crying it out or anything.
Good luck! If you figure out what works please let me know!

Aww, but he is so cute! I have two year old that still wakes in the night and as a result still sleeps in our bed...

We call it the gongshow because soon there will be a newborn thrown into the mix. OH THE FUN!

Oooooooh - the memories. I feel your pain - Tiger was EXACTLY the same, it was so hard. I started waking him up at 8.30pm for a bottle, and keeping him up a bit. THEN he would go back and do his "big chunk of sleep". It was the best advice anyone ever gave me - changed my life.

Good luck!

Mony, you're not alone and it will get better. Having said that...Tresilian. My friend took her chronic non-sleeper and it worked amazingly well. I nearly went purely because I was told that you have to stay there a couple of nights and on the first night YOU SLEEP ALL NIGHT and they stay up with the baby and watch when he wakes etc. In the end I wasn't organised enough and he started settling by six months (I also started doing control crying via the babylove book.) Good luck sweetie. But it will get better.

I'm a miserable failure at the controlled crying bit. Sometimes my big girl does great sleeps 5 or 6 hours at a time and sometimes she's up every hour. We'll get through this.

How do the wee ones manage to look so stunning despite the sleep deprivation??

Ugh. One of the most challenging things regarding sleep issues is that as a mom, you're just too freakin' sleep deprived to read and process the applicable info!

I hope it gets better for you soon.
