Get the Party started...

Being a part of the "Reproductively Challenged" network has become one of my most rewarding experiences. I truly dig my infertile comrades. There is such a sense of belonging amongst us.

Blog reading & commenting is a social affair. It's like arriving at a party. The guests are all dressed identical. This symbolises our unity. The uniform of an infertile is a Brown Jumpsuit. Yes, Brown. Normally your attire would make you would feel paranoid, ugly, different to everyone else. But looking around the party seeing everyone else in their Brown Jumpsuits...you feel better. You are part of the norm. You are amongst friends. You look around and straight away you see people you know. There's Bugs, Nina, Paula, Lut...Hi! Where's Smarsh? Oh...there he is by the keg. He's chatting with Sparkle & Krista. The conversations flows easily, gossip is exchanged. "Did you hear about http://drewbaby.blogspot.com" Isn't it great? There's banter, high 5's & hugging. Every now & then there is a new face. You are introduced to a new Brown Jumpsuit wearer. "Have you met so & so?" Hi! Drink? Cracker? They are made to feel welcome & soon become part of the gang.
Amongst the familiar faces you notice that some have added a jazzy Orange Belt to their Brown Jumpsuit. The Orange Belt is admired & longed for. It symbolises pregnancy. Oooooh! Look at Jenny, Sandy & Mellie wearing their Orange Belts. So lovely! It doesn't clash with the Brown Jumpsuit. It just compliments them. Others are dancing. Their Brown Jumpsuit are well worn, their Orange Belts are a little faded but behold! They have an added bonus to their outfit.... White Leather Boots. The ultimate accessory! White Leather Boots symbolise a baby has arrived! Look at Ovagirl, Em & Dramalish in their White Leather Boots! Don't they look smashing! Work it girls!

It's not always fun at our parties however. We are battle worn. Our Brown Jumpsuits have seen us through crankiness & heartache. Many times over. See just over there in the dark corner? A group is huddling. Someone is sad. SBHH. One of us got bad news. A BFN, a miscarriage, a cancelled cycle. We all rush to comfort. We line-up & wait our turn to touch the wounded friend. We offer tissues, cuddles, kind words.....we say "Take your time. When you are up to it come & join us on the dancefloor again. We'll be waiting right here for you."

Then Spanglish bolts through the doors! "Quick! Everybody!" she bellows "A Troll somehow snuck into the party & is causing a ruckus in the kitchen!" We all unite! An army of Jumpsuited, Belt'n'Booted fury! We corner the troll & beat them into submission. Together we watch the troll run & a collective cheer errupts!

It's true. Brown Jumpsuits can actually be cool. Orange Belts are totally cool.
.....and White Leather Boots?
That's what keeps the party going. Beer?

This post is awesome! Why has no one else commented? I totally agree, this party rocks. At first I was shy being one of the only guys. Now I want all you ladies to myself.

In my case, I'll take a white Akubra hat instead of the boots.

And I think for our party's musical entertainment, You shoudl bang out some kick-ass drum solo.

Totally cool post. And man wouldn't I love for us to actually have that party. I would love it so bad I would actually be prepared to wear a brown jumpsuit.

I'm glad to have you too Mony, because if I have to wear the ugly brown jumpsuit, I am sure glad that there is a whole group of kick ass, rocking men and women wearing it with me. And I mean that in the same supportive way, not in a misery love company way.

I knew you lot would "Get" this post. I just wish I could have named EVERYONE somewhere in the storyline. I hate leaving names out....but you know I love you all.

You don't have to ask twice for the drum solo. I have found my calling people. I AM a drummer. A double stroking, bass thumping, snare toting, hihatting, tom-tomming, crash cymbol fiend. Boom-Tish. Glad to have you at my Party. Now....step away from the kit and form a mosh-pit. On the count of 4...Rock Out. Sweat stains do not show up on Brown Jumpsuits. Yeah!

Definitely need you on the drums.
Please tell me you are going to submit this post (as one of your many submissions...HINT HINT HINT) to the Big Book! It is too good not to submit!

Thank goodness I look great in brown-- I hate being at a party in an outfit I don't look good in. Your drumming would fit well in our neighborhood- the guy next door does keyboards- here we have a guitar and a uke player-- and when the neighbor practices boxing then all the pups in the nieghborhood join into chorus!

This might be my very favorite post that I've ever read. I'm putting it my "must read" link section. When I started reading I thought "but I still feel like I have a brown jumpsuit" and then I got to your oh-so thoughtful orange belt section, and then the white boots just made me plain ole'cry. You amaze me - you really do. BEST POST EVER!!!!

Great post Mony, really cute.

The whole ttc/IF thing is such an incredibly lonely process (despite people keep telling you there are HEAPS of other people out there who finds it difficult to conceive). But thanks to the internet, and blogs & typepads, I finally found my comfort and peace, and friends who I can really count on.

Thanks hunny. :)

I so want some white leather boots!! I used to have some when I was about 19-20. I eventually gave them away when I decided they were no longer fashionable. Maybe that was my mistake ... all those years ago.

I just love, love this post! I kind of feel like the new girl who doesn't quite belong because 1) I haven't been wearing the brown suit long enough, and 2) I'm a mom already and well, maybe I don't deserve to be invited? I'm not sure how others feel but I know I relate to all of you so much and want to be part of the party too :) I hope you'll accept me...!

oh, you've made me all nostalgic for 1985. when I did in fact have a brown cotton jumpsuit. which I often tied with a gaily coloured scarf (probably not orange). but my boots weren't white. they were black suede, ankle-height, and tied a the back with shoelaces.

and silver? yep, there was a lot of silver then too: silver headscarves, even silver jackets. never thought of a silver lining...

Thalia is right, it deserves to go in the hall of fame- Right along with Mare's infertility island and Maneula's infertile summer camp.

I have a question though, what do we wear if already got the white boots but are starting the whole process over again?

I'm wearing a tan jumpsuit because I am officially retiring my brown one. Still hanging around the party and DaRINKIN!
Great analogy. I use them all the time and truly appreciate when someone else has the ability to sum things up this way!
Party on!
