Not to everyone's taste.
When we visit my MIL at the nursing home, Cooper brings her great joy. Her 2 strokes have left her blind & mostly immobile. It's almost spiritual the way Cooper lays in her arms, completely still & unfussy for long stretches of time. She caresses his toes & kisses his head while murmuring baby talk. It's very therapeutic for her & brings great comfort to my husband. Cooper also proves very popular with the staff & other residents. Pushing him through the corridors little old men & women peer out of doorways & echo "Oh! A Baby! A wee baby! Hello!" We often stop to chat. Nursing homes can be so bloody depressing so it's nice to be able to brighten their day somewhat.
Tonight in his pram we passed a crooked old woman on her way back from dinner. She stopped her walking trolley & asked "Is that a boy or a girl?" I told her that his name was Cooper and that he was a boy.
"What's his name?" she asked.
"Cooper" I said, a little louder.
"What's his name?" she repeated.
"COOPER.." I said again, louder.
"Cooper?!' she scoffed. "Aww no..what did you call him that for??"
She shuffled on shaking her head. I heard her add "...he could do with some hair".
Ha! Ha! It was insanely funny. How could I be offended by such a crotchety old biddy? I may well have been her only conversation for the day! Bless her scattered cotton socks.

hahahahahahaha. old people can be very funny. i agree with you-though it was an outright AWFUL-thing to say, you can't get too upset about it.
a older (89) neighbor of ours said "i hope you don't have a retard (!!!!) like our neighbors did" when we told them we were pregnant.
too funny, if outright offensive.
(i used to be the oneliner, but then i realized i wasn't funny so i changed my name; )
That really made me laugh!! The inappropriateness of it just makes it SO funny ... i love the name Cooper, my friend has a son with that name. The part that's funnier to me is the "he could do with a bit of hair!" HA... I'm going to start saying that to all parents of bald babies!
ROFL that would've cracked me up! People can be funny sometimes even when they are being a little bitchy.
He could do with some hair...classic!
haha I love old people. My nana used to introduce me to people at her nursing home and then turn around and in the loudest voice say "I can't stand that old biddy - she is always wanting to know everything". I think because they are deaf they think nobody else can hear them, or because they have lived so long they have the right to say just about anything lol. I Think Cooper is a gorgeous name, and suits him so well. hehe Alex has no hair yet either. But it will grow!
that is so funny! he could do with some hair... made my day!
Too funny! You'd think (with everyone around her most likely as bald as an eagle) that she'd think bald was beautiful! :-)
I can really relate to this post...
They just say what they think dont they?
LOL...
That's a total crack up!
I'm glad you we able to be so magnanamous about it!

The one benefit of aging is the gradually granting of permission to say whatever is on your mind, whether it is nice or not!
Cooper is adorable!
I laughed so hard reading this!!!
I totally had flashbacks of visting my Grandpa in the nursing home. My mom would always roll her eyes and say that old people and kids always say what's on their mind - no matter if they should or not.
Cooper is gorgeous!
HA!!! Oh that's just priceless. One for his 18th birthday party speech.
He looks sooooooo much like you! Does everyone say that?
I would LOVE to meet up with you -and Cooper! I'm on Mr TCs computer, so will email you soon from mine. How exciting!!
Much love xoxoxoxox
