Moving Up

...well our boy is certainly the achiever. He has graduated out of the NICU into Special Care. It feels wonderful. Cooper will take the "Sucking Feeds 1.0" course this week as he progresses onto bottle feeds. I called it quits on the expressing. I tried for 16 days to produce enough milk for him & it just hasn't happened. I am comfortable with my decision. He tolerates the formula well. He is gaining weight and that's all that matters. Cooper has his eyes open alot more often now, he is quite the sticky beak. Making eye contact with your child gives you goosebumps.

Here's hoping that a new week brings even more developments because we are so, so desperate to get this little boy home.
...nearly there, Cooper.

I hope he catches on quickly. It was frustrating for me with my little girl because they would only try feeding for about 5 min, then poor the rest down the feeding tube. They said they didn't want her to burn too many calories trying to eat.

I hope he catches on quickly and is out of their soon. If he gets to the point(and I pray he doesn't) that feeding issues are the only thing keeping him hospitalized, don't be afraid to insist on a g-tube so he can go home. I'm sure he will catch on quickly and be home soon. Just stay on the nurses to work with his bottle feeding and occupational or speech therapy should visit a couple times a day to work with him on feedings.

Sorry for the unsolicited advice, but I've been there before, so just wanted to pass on the info.

Take it one day at a time. NICU stays are so frustrating.

That's amazing! Way to go Cooper!

No reason to feel bad about the feeding - I can't even imagine trying to express milk for every feeding. It's hard enough to pump when you are only doing it sometimes, it must be a million times harder to do it all the time! Too hard to make supply equal demand and all that.
Your time is better spent with that beautiful boy of yours, making sure he is well taken care of! Hope he learns fast so he can come home!

yay he is progressing in leaps and bounds - good job little man!

Yeah I vetoed the feeding as well in the end - as one midwife said to me - sometimes it can be so hard for your family that you don't end up enjoying your baby at all - and stopping is the best thing you can do for your family.

once he is off the tube feeding he will be home before you know it - Go little man go.

He really is progressing! How exciting, I can just imagine how you are longing to have him home with you and become a full time Mum! Lots of good vibes going his way - and as for the bottle, like you say, he's gaining weight and doing well. No point in making things harder :-)

I am sticking with the pumping for now but it is a challenge with two of them wanting 2 oz every 3-4 hours. We are going to be substituting one bottle per day with formula to try to fatten them up. By the way...we are so blessed. Our little miracles come home on Tuesday. We can hardly wait. Keeping you in our thoughts!!
